David Beckham appeared live on stage at the Adidas Press Launch for the London Olympics 2012 in the form of a hologram, as Adidas unveiled its £100 million sponsorship deal with London 2012, the biggest so far for the Olympic Games organiser.

Adidas also treated its guests at a London theatre to a lineup of stars headed by the still adorable Nadia Comaneci, the legendary Romanian gymnast, plus Tyson Gay and Allyson Felix, the United States’ world sprint champions. The best of British stars mustered by adidas was Daley Thompson, who won the last of his two Olympic decathlete gold medals in 1984.

Well, David Beckham in a sense, in that he appeared on stage at the Astoria Theatre as a clever hologram projection. As one wag put it: “That would solve England’s problems of getting him across from Los Angeles. Just beam him back.”

Dimensional Studios and Musion were comissioned by MEI:PW for the Adidas Press Launch.

David Beckham gets own logo

David Beckham officially unveiled his new personal logo at the adidas Global Headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, and extended his contract with the world’s leading football brand until 2008. The logo design was inspired by Beckham’s trademark free kicks, and will appear on specifically designed collections that will be revealed later this year. Coupled with the contract extension, it builds an even deeper relationship between the world’s number one football brand and arguably the most famous footballer in the world, adidas and David Beckham.

“This logo represents the merging together of two of the most powerful brands in world sport. It’s an exciting new venture for both the adidas brand and David Beckham and we are looking forward to using it across our business for many years to come. David’s passion and commitment make him one of the fiercest competitors and most exciting players in the game today. He’s the perfect fit for our brand,” stated Herbert Hainer, Chairman and CEO of adidas-Salomon AG.

“The logo is totally me and something that people can relate to,” David Beckham said. “The image of me taking a free kick is world renowned and instantly recognizable. I am proud to have worked with adidas to develop it.”

“We wanted to capture the unique nature of a Beckham free kick,” says Eric Vellozzi, the adidas designer responsible for developing the logo. “A David Beckham free kick is one of the most recognizable images in world sport, even before he kicks the ball, due to the angle of his body upon impact. Couple that with the significant curve that this action puts on the flight path of the ball and you have something truly original. This new logo is designed to signify just that and be instantly recognizable as an adidas/David Beckham logo for years to

The ‘Impossible Is Nothing campaign expresses the attitude adidas shares with athletes around the world – the desire to push yourself further, to surpass limits, to break new ground and prove that Impossible is truly Nothing.

In one concise phrase, the campaign captures the essence of adidas as a brand and the spirit that unites true athletes the world over, said an official release.

This advert features top players like Becks himself, Ballack, Defoe, Kaka, Saviola battling with opposition in an ‘Impossible Pitch’.
